Housing Site Selection
For an applicant who resides within the service jurisdiction of the Housing Authority of Joliet at the time of application submission (Will County), the applicant may elect to utilize their voucher locally or anywhere within the United States where there is a Housing Authority that operates a Housing Choice Voucher Program.
For an applicant who resides outside of the service jurisdiction of the Housing Authority of Joliet the time of application submission (Will County), the applicant must initially utilize their voucher for a one (1) year period within the service jurisdiction. After the one year period of renting locally, the program participant may elect to either continue utilizing their voucher locally or they may elect to utilize it anywhere within the United States where there is a Housing Authority that operates a Housing Choice Voucher Program.
Program participants are strongly urged to rent units where the household desires to reside and to target geographical areas with a low poverty and minority household concentration.

Furnishings / Amenities
Most rental units are generally unfurnished.
Many landlords do supply their rental units with a stove and a refrigerator, although this may not be the case if a program participant elects to rent a unit without these amenities or bring in or purchase their own appliances.
A telephone connection is a requirement of the program; whether or not a program participant elects to purchase a telephone or telephone service is strictly their personal choice.
A master antenna that will provide access to basic television channel reception is a requirement of the program. Cable television be made with the appropriate service provider.
Private or central laundry facilities may or may not be available within a rental unit.
Garage(s) or carports may or may not be available with a rental unit.
